Pterognathiidae with usually more than 5, fairly robust jaw teeth arranged in a rostro-ventral arc or ventro-rostro-dorsal basket and more or less equally divided between the dorsal and the ventral part of the jaw. Rostral edge of basal plate set with teeth which usually correspond in number and structure to that of a jaw. Testis usually unpaired, situated dorsally (Sterrer 1991a:112).
