Diagnosis of Rastrognathiidae Kristensen & Nørrevang, 1977

Scleroperalia with one pair of apicalia and 4 pairs of compound bristles. Ciliary pits present. Paired prepharyngeal glands. Epidermal cells not in stripes. Male stylet consisting of 6 rods. Sperm small and round, totally covered with microvilli. Basal plate und jugum lacking. Jaws lamellate with bulbous cauda. Teeth long and arced, arranged in a single arc. Large pharyngeal bulb lying at the posterior margin of the mouth. The jaws reach out of the mouth opening during food intake.
