Discoceloidea malagasensis Notes

Placing this species in Faubel's system (by which the several species of Discoplana have been relegated to other genera in Ilyplanidae and Euplanidae), is difficult, but the only common denominator among those species in the latest phylogenomic analysis (Dittmann et al., 2019) is the superfamily Discoceloidea. No genus nor even family can be specified.

Notes for Discoplana malagasensis

Placing this species in Faubel's system (by which Discoplana is incertae sedis, with its species now assigned to several different genera) is difficult. The authors provide an emended diagnosis of Discoplana as belonging in the Leptoplanidae and so follow Prudhoe's (1985) system. LifeDesks (http://polycladida.lifedesks.org/pages/2706) places D. malagasensis in the family Leptoplanidae, unassigned genus, in the Leptoplanoidea as defined by Faubel (1984). In the latest phylogenomic analysis (Dittmann et al., 2019), the only common denominator encompassing all species formerly described under Discoplana is the superfamily Discoceloidea. The species malagasensis cannot be assigned to a genus nor even family.
