Urastoma cyprinae Notes

Westblad 1955 (citation)- p. 517, 'According to previous information this species is only a parasite or commensal among gills in Lamellibranchs. In the Spring of 1952 I found masses of the species in a free state in the neighbourhood of Rovinj station among red algae along the banks of Fazena Channel, and some species at the muud bottom, depth about 50 m N.W. of the lighthouse Giovanni S. Pelago. Its size (about 0.5 mm in length) as well as its appearance and anatomy are completely in agreement with the Scandinavian species, which has never been found in seaweed but only in the mantle cavity of the Lamellibranchs (Mytilus, Modiola). According to Marcus (1.c.) Urastoma evelinae also lives in algae in the littoral region of the island of Sao Sebastiao (Brazil).'
