Kata leroda Notes

Marcus E 1950 (citation) pg. 112: 'Kata leroda, n. sp. (Fig. 111-115), from sand of the shore of the island of
São Sebastião, is smaller (2.0 mm long) than K. evelinae (8 mm). Although the pharynx of K. leroda lies
farther in front, the caudal region of the body is proportionally much shorter. The ventral cilia extend to
the genital pore (in evelinae only to the beginning of the pharynx). Other differences are: the scarcity of
adhesive papillae, the absence of cyanophilous cephalic glands, the weaker cutaneous muscles, especially on
the back, the position of the nuclei oof the cilated sole beneath the longitudinal muscles like in the rest of
the body, not between an external and an internal layer of muscles as in evelinae, scattered cells of Minot, a
very short post-pharyngeous gut, a bulbous, not conical (evelinae) male organ and a single bursa, vagina and
dorsal pore (paired in evelinae). The canal between the efferent duct and the intracellular intestinal
vacuoles described for evelinae occurs also in leroda.'
