Convolutidae Adenopea Notes

Antonius A 1968 (citation)- defines new genus and moves some Convoluta into it. Definition p 309:
"Bursa with a cuticular nozzle. Genital openings separate, always ventral. Copulatory organ
consists of a tube shaped, mostly ciliated penis formed from a high epidermis (antrum masculinum),
always in combination with a adenodactylus. A seminal vesicle as a split space, consisting of a
secretory and a sperm guide part, is attached to the proximal end of penis. Vagina mostly ciliated.
Genital openings without stimulatory organs. Brain insunken. Anterior glands with or without a
common duct, sometimes very extensive. Mostly without enrolled sides. Decked with symbiotic
algae, rhabdites, pigments and conspicuous concretions. No pigment eyes." List species:

		Adenopea illardatus
		Adenopea chuni
		Adenopea cenata

from key p 310- characters, has bursa with one anterior nozzle, separate genital openings, without
a seminal vesicle, with adenodactyls. All are pelagic, adenodactyls in each of 3 species, sperm
and secretory parts of vesicle, end of penis like a vesicle- without a good wall- a sort of
split in parenchyma? Etc, on development from a Proaphanostoma form- see diagram figure 8, ciliated
	female antrum.

Faubel A 1976 (citation)- p 23 definition and list of species. Made changes to Antonius A 1968 (citation).
Changed this: "mostly ciliated penis formed from a high epidermis (antrum masculinum),
always in combination with a adenodactylus."

	to this:

"copulatory organ present." Says one of adenodactyls is seminal vesicle.

Geographic distribution: Brazil, Suez Canal, Gulf of Naples.
