Marcus E 1951 (citation) pg. 108: 'Mecynostomum pellitum, n. sp. (Fig. 1-5), fro fine sand on the coast of the
canal of São Sebastião, is 0.2-0.3 mm. long alive and has a uniformly high (6-8 micra) epicytium (k) with long
cilia (6 micra). When the epicytium dissolves under pressure of the cover-glass, it shows its original
epithelial structure. The back has 7 and each side 3 series of rhabdite-glands (h); each series contains
about 30 glands. The cyanophil cephalic glands (g) open together with 2 rhammitogenous glands (r). The few
annular fibres (n) lie partly on the outer, partly on the inner side of the longitudinal (m) ones. The latter
form about 13 series around the body and unravel in front. Dorso-ventral muscles (p) carve the outline of the
large ovocyte (o) that is 0.09mm. long. The neuropilema (c) of the brain is epicytial, its cells (d) are
submuscular. The mouth (b) lies nearly in the middle; the endocytium (i) contains Protozoa and some Diatoms.
The two lateral germ-zones are in common for male and female cells. Up to 8 coils of sperm (t), evidently
come up from the same spermatogonium, occur on each side. The seminal vesicle (s) has glands (u) and bristles
around its orifice. A penis is absent. The small antrum (a) opens (x) ventrally near the hind end. The
vagina is often filled with loose tissue. The bursa (w) contains sperms and a mass of pink secretion as such
was described in the seminal vesicle of M. minimum. The diploid number of chromosomes is 16. The eggs are
freed through the mouth.
The locomotion likens that of M. minimum. This species differs by its greater size, different height of the
epicytium in various parts of the body, not serially disposed glands that contain two types of rhabdites, no
rhammite-glands, entirely internal brain, and anteriorly confluent testes that are separate from the ovaries.'
