Papi F 1957 (citation)- gives following diagnosis. p 145. "Hofsteniidae lacking nervous elements surrounding the statocysts. Mouth ventral, pharynx with normal musculature. Testes compact, granular vesicle absent." Type of genus and only species H. pardii Papi 1957 from the Tyrhenian Sea, Gulf of Naples. Hyman LH 1959 (citation)- p 735 mentions. Ax P 1963 (citation)- says genus has epithelial nervous system. Steinbock O 1966 (citation)- p 76 says 2 statoliths in als p 71, 73, 76. Steinbock O 1967 (citation)- p 397 mentions. Dorjes J 1968 (citation)- p 105 definition of genus H. pardii Papi 1957 type.
