Mecynostomidae Mecynostomum Notes

Beneden E van 1870 (citation)-
Jensen OS 1878 (citation)- definition in Latin p 30 and discussion p 30- only species listed is
	M. agile [=Archaphanostoma agile].

Graff L v 1882 (citation)- includes part of Macrostomum Autl and Monoceles (Monotus) Diesing.
	 Discussion - key to species p 237-8.
	 	Mecynostoma lentiferum Levinsen 1879
Mecynostoma auritum Ed v Beneden 1870 list of synonyms- brief description.
Mecynostoma agile Jensen 1878 -brief description.
Mecynostoma cordiforme Levinsen 1879 -brief description.
Mecynostoma caudatum mihi- illustration- brief description.

Bohmig L 1895 (citation)- mentions p 43, 45.
Wilhelmi J 1913 (citation)- p 12 does not list but refers to it p 67, 82.
Riedel G 1932 (citation)- includes in key of Macrostominae p 86.
Westblad E 1948 (citation)- penis inverts on use in some species and has a secretory cap. p 23 brain in
p 50 notes both separate and combined genital pores in this genus.

Marcus E 1948 (citation)- Discusses relation of Aphanostomum and Mecynostomum and species. Gives
key to 11 species of Mecynostomum. Diagnosis from Westblad "mouth ventral without pharynx; a
seminal bursa which can be lacking, without a nozzle; external duct (vagina) of bursa can open
combined with the male copulatory organ or separated from this on the ventral side".[Bush translation].
this a group of species without nozzles to bursa.
Reference p 112 and literature review to date. Key to species 112-113,
	diagnosis p 112 [Paraconvoluta=this p 112, 187.

Marcus E 1950 (citation)- reproduction p 12, mentions 13, 15, 103.
Marcus E 1951 (citation)- lists as above, refers also to Westblad E 1948 (citation) p 7.
Marcus E 1954 (citation)- good discussion of history of genus and problems with it- type is
	M. auritum (M. S. Schultze 1851) but both Meixner and Westblad redescribed as of different species.
insunk epithelium or not occurs in this genus. Divides genus into 2 groups:

		1- combined genital pores-
			M. macrobursalium
			M. minima
			M. pellitum
			M. idium

		2- separate genital pores-
			M. lutheri
			M. evelinae
			M. bathycola
			M. auritum
			M. pulchellum
			M. pallidum
			M. sanguineum

Further changes suggested- not made M. agile and M. macrospiriferum	to neighborhood of
Avagina, and M. tenuissimum to Faerlea.

Steinbock O 1966 (citation)- mentions p 116.
Dorjes J 1968 (citation)- p 117 defines genus and lists 2 species, M auritum (M. S. Schultze 1851) and
	M. haplovarium Dorjes 1968. Discussion of - literature review. Westblad E 1946 (citation) did not
have Schultze's species. Since he said a bursa seminalis present- he notes Meixner, Ax, Luther
are correct and agrees with them that Schultze's species lacked bursa seminalis.

Rieger RM 1971 (citation)- mentions p 244.
Henley C 1974 (citation)- sperm are her type 1, p 299 on ultra structure of sperm (Hendelberg J 1969 (citation)).
Tyler S 1979 (citation)- used a specimens of this genus in electron microscopy work.
Rieger RM 1981 (citation)- electron microscopy work on p 216.
