Cylindrostoma atlanticum Diagnosis
By its size [2.0-2.5 X 0.8-1.0 mm], shape [ovoid, short tail posteriorly], and colour [light orange from subepidermal pigment granules], and the absence of the transverse sensory groove, caudal glands and adhesive disc, [C. atlanticus] differs from [other] species of the genus Cylindrostoma. The epidermal layer is nucleated while the intestinal wall is syncytial and not differentiated into phagocytic and enzymatic gland cells. The pharynx is plicatus (tubiformis) and is ciliated internally and externally. The short common seminal duct is surrounded by a group of strong circular muscle fibres (sphincter muscle).
