Microstomidae with ciliary pits at frontal end and preoral intestine. Two excretion openings in the anterior body. Rhabdites and nematocysts present in some species. Asexual reproduction through fissioning as well as sexual reproduction present. Sexual anatomy including one or two testes beside or behind the intestine; one or two ovaries consisting of one or more lobes and containing a central oocyte. Body size of solitary individual 0.6-4mm, with chains comprising up to 18 zooids and 15 mm
