Abstract / Notes
The collection taken at 350 m. comprised members of the Acoela, Rhabdocoela, and Alloecoela. Of the Acoela only one species, Rimicola glacialis Bohmig, was present. Rhabdocoela, Polycystididae Porrocystis, with P. drygalskii. The characters of this new species necessitate a revision of Meixner's scheme for the Polycystididae with the recognition of 6 genera: Polycystis, Macrorhynchus, Acrorhynchus, Phonorhynchus, Porrocystis, and Progyrator. Alloeocoela, Gnosonesimidae is founded for Gnosonesima, with G. antarctica, the only known turbellarian in which the oviduct leads directly into the intestine, thus supporting Steinbock's idea that the eggs were originally discharged through the intestine and mouth. The former status of Lecithoepitheliata as an aberrant group is greatly altered by the discovery of this species which is a primitive type leading into the Alloeocoela and Rhabdocoela. Rhabdocoela, Cylindrostomidae: Cylindrostoma vanhoffeni, C. gaussi, Monoophorum ruseni, Plagiostomidae: P. opisthogonimum, similar to P. lemani which is thus not so isolated as supposed. Acrorhynchus caledonicus (Claperede, 1861) Graff, 1882 accepted as Acrorhynchides caledonicus (Claperede, 1861) Strand, 1928 Cylindrostoma gaussi Reisinger, 1926 (original description) Cylindrostoma vanhoffeni Reisinger, 1926 (original description) Gnosonesima Reisinger, 1926 (original description) Gnosonesima antarctica Reisinger, 1926 (original description) Gnosonesimidae Reisinger, 1926 (original description) Macrorhynchus (Opisthocystis) Sekera, 1911 accepted as Opisthocystis Sekera, 1911 Macrorhynchus (Opisthocystis) goettei (Bresslau, 1906) Reisinger, 1926 accepted as Opisthocystis goettei (Bresslau, 1906) Sekera, 1911 (new combination reference) Macrorhynchus croceus (Fabricius, 1826) Graff, 1882 accepted as Graffiellus croceus (Fabricius, 1826) Hornung, 2016 Monoophorum ruseri Reisinger, 1926 (original description) Phonorhynchus helgolandicus (Mecznikow, 1865) Graff, 1905 (additional source) Plagiostomum opisthogonimum Reisinger, 1926 (original description) Polycystis naegelii Kölliker, 1845 Porrocystis Reisinger, 1926 (original description) Porrocystis drygalskii Reisinger, 1926 accepted as Porrocystis assimilis (Levinsen, 1879) Karling, 1952 (original description) Progyrator mamertinus (Graff, 1874) Reisinger, 1926 (original description) Progyrator mamertinus (Graff, 1874) Reisinger, 1926 (new combination reference)
