Abstract / Notes
"A. tvaerminnensis possesses intraepidermal longitudinal muscles in addition to a typical body-wall musculature. These additional outer longitudinal muscle fibers do not belong to epithelio-muscle cells as stated earlier but are part of myocytes. Epithelio-muscle cells do not occur within the body-wall musculature of any species of the Plathelminthes. Muscle cells of A. tvaerminnensis are connected to each other by spot desmosomes. Such junctions are typical for the Acoela. Hemidesmosomes do not occur within the body-wall musculature of acoels because of the lack of a subepidermal extracellular matrix. In A. tvaerminnensis, axons of submuscular neurons have been found which are enveloped by longitudinal muscle cells."Home page -- (Main hierarchy) |
