Abstract / Notes
This turbellarian colonizes the intertidal zone where there is a stream of fresh water. Examination of streams on the British coasts shows that it is not limited in its distribution by the Ca content of the water down to a minimum of 5 mgm. per litre, the lowest value found. Its upper limit coincides closely with that of Fucus spiralis on adjacent rocks. At this level it may be exposed without apparent injury to fresh water for as much as 5 days continuously, when low neap tides coincide with calm weather.
