Abstract / Notes

A new species, Gieysztoria pulchra, sp. nov., of the genus Gieysztoria (Platyhelminthes, Rhabdocoela,
Dalyellidae) is reported in this paper. Gieysztoria pulchra sp. nov. (Figs. 1-9) Holotype 1, MZ20040803-I-1,
found in a fish pond located in Xinning County, Meizhou, Guangdong Province, China (24[degree]13'N,
115[degree]76'E) in Aug. 2004. Paratypes 18, MZ20040803-I-2-19, from the same location as holotype. All of
the specimens were kept in the Morphological Research Laboratory of Life Science College, Shenzhen
University, Guangdong, China. Description. Body length ranges from 820 to 870 [mu]m, width 200-250 [mu]m.
Body shape is semicircular anterior part, coniform posterior part and circular transverse section. The body
of live individuals which has no pigment epithelium, is transparent. Live individual has a pair of
vitellaria, length 440 [mu]m, and one ovary, 150 [mu]m X 45 [mu]m. The uterus lies ventral of the ovary. The
receptaculum seminalis sit rear of the ovary, 20 [mu]m X 20 [mu]m. A pair of spermary, 65 [mu]m X 40 [mu]m,
lies ventral of enteron end. The vesicula seminalis, vesicula granulorum and penis are tightly lengthways.
arranged. The penis is keratose, length 48 pm. The clitellum is length 25 [mu]m, width 20 [mu]m. The penis
has 13 stout spines, length ranging from 20 to 28 pm, which have the same shape. The bursa copulatrix sits
the same side of penis, 70 [mu]m X 30 [mu]m. Habitat. The new species was found on aquatic plant in a fish
pond located in Xinning County, Meizhou, Guangdong Province China. Some kinds of fish, shrimp and mollusks
were observed in the pond, in which water is clear freshwater, temperature 20[degree]C, pH 7.9. Etymology.
Refers to the bright and beautiful appearance of the live individuals ( Greek pulchr-meaning bright and
beautiful). Remarks. Compared with all recorded species of genus Gleysztoria, the present species
characterizes that there are 13 stout spines in the cuticular penis which distinctly differs from that of
other two similar species originated from Europe, G. octospinosa (8 stout spines) and G. rubra intermedia (
14 stout spines). Gieysztoria macrovariata 9-spinosa Luther, 1955 (Figs. 10-12) A newly recorded species,
Gieysztoria macrovariata 9-spinosa ( Luther, 1955), is also reported here. The specimens, 10,
AH200406-I-1-10, Wuhu City, Anhui Province, China (31[degree] 33' N, 118[degree]48'E). The specimen of
Gleysztoria macrovariata 9-spinosa in this paper resembles the specimen of Luther (1955), except for a few
differences in the structure of penis. The penis of the specimen in this paper is longer than that of the
Luther's specimen, length 131 [mu]m and 118 [mu]m respectively. The base of penis of the specimen in this
paper shows a keratose caplike structure, which is not observed on the penis of the Luther's specimen.
