Abstract / Notes
A number of triclad spp. have been maintained for some years in the laboratory. Sexual reproduction in spp. of Fonticola takes place generally in the winter. It may alternate with periods of fission in the summer, or fission occurs irregularly or is more or less completely absent. Descrs. are given of Dendrocoelum (Dendrocoelides) racovitzai, from a cavern in Romania, and Amyadenium chattoni, from a grotto in Haute-Pyrenees, France. The former sp. has no trace of eyes; in the latter eyes are present, evidently a primitive characteristic persisting from the light-dwelling ancestor.
