Abstract / Notes
The chromosome complement of 2 spp. of Atrioplanaria was studied. The main characteristics are a high number of metacentric tiny chromosomes; this number fluctuates from 95-124 in the same animal. This characteristic is in agreement with Dahm's findings concerning 2 other species of Atrioplanaria, the chromosomes of which numbered 46 and 52 and were morphologically similar. Full taxonomic individuality for this genus was confirmed. Hypotheses on the origin of karyological characteristics were discussed.Home page -- (Main hierarchy) |
