Abstract / Notes
"The karyotype of D. lactea was investigated in the neoblasts of regenerating pieces by the squash or air-dried method, and the meiotic divisions of primary spermatocytes and oocytes were observed. The chromosome number of this species was 2n _ 16 and n _ 8. The karyotype consisted of 2 pairs of metacentric chromosomes, 5 pairs of submetacentric and 1 pair of subtelocentric chromosomes. The 8 pairs of the diploid set are of different lengths, the longest chromosome being about twice the size of the shortest one. The length of the chromosomes decreases gradually in sequence, without clear-cut discontinuities."
