Abstract / Notes
Various spp. of Stenostomum have been widely used for experimental purposes but the results of the work have been confused because of the uncertainty of specific identification. A review of the literature shows 30 spp. previously descr. from America, 18 of which appear to be of unquestionable validity. Descriptions and plates (with specific diagnoses and a key) are furnished for these 18 and 4 new spp. Brief notes on the biology of the genus give a working knowledge of collection and culture methods.
