Notes for Discoplana malagasensis
Placing this species in Faubel's system (by which Discoplana is incertae sedis, with its species now assigned to several different genera) is difficult. The authors provide an emended diagnosis of Discoplana as belonging in the Leptoplanidae and so follow Prudhoe's (1985) system. LifeDesks (http://polycladida.lifedesks.org/pages/2706) places D. malagasensis in the family Leptoplanidae, unassigned genus, in the Leptoplanoidea as defined by Faubel (1984). In the latest phylogenomic analysis (Dittmann et al., 2019), the only common denominator encompassing all species formerly described under Discoplana is the superfamily Discoceloidea. The species malagasensis cannot be assigned to a genus nor even family.Return to Discoplana malagasensis
