This species was originally published with the incorrect original spelling Macrostomum schäreri Brand, 2023. According to the Code the correct spelling is Macrostomum schareri Brand, 2023 (see https://code.iczn.org/formation-and-treatment-of-names/article-32-original-spellings) Specifically, see Article 32.5.2.1. "In the case of a diacritic or other mark, the mark concerned is deleted, except that in a name published before 1985 and based upon a German word, the umlaut sign is deleted from a vowel and the letter "e" is to be inserted after that vowel (if there is any doubt that the name is based upon a German word, it is to be so treated)." Since this paper was published after 1984, the correct approach is to drop the umlaut sign. A correction was issued with the journal (https://frontiersinzoology.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/s12983-024-00526-2) and the original publication was corrected online (https://frontiersinzoology.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/s12983-023-00509-9).
