Haswell WA 1905 (citation) - describes a new species and new genus Heterochaerus from beach pools in Australia. Description and illustration p 449-467 and plate 27. Luther A 1912 (citation)- notes Heterochaerus australis Haswell should be in Amphiscolops. Kaburaki T 1922 (citation)- p 14 mentions. Meixner J 1925 (citation)- mentions p 601. Westblad E 1948 (citation)- p 47 thinks this genus should be abolished since it is based on only a number of nozzles and busa- as these increase with age this is not a good character. Marcus E 1947 (citation)- mentions p 161, notes Luther made this Amphiscolops. Marcus E 1950 (citation)- in key for genera p 21. Marcus E 1952 (citation)- says this species has 2 forms of sperm (only one besides his C. thauma, p 17, 104). Dorjes J, Young JO 1973 (citation)- brief description- no illustration. Notes occurence in Africa and Australia. Winsor L 1990 (citation)- reinstates genus Heterochaerus with two species: H. australis Haswell 1905 H. sargassi (Hyman, 1939)
