Conaperta flavibacillum Notes

Jensen OS 1878 (citation)- definition in Latin p 28 and description p 28-30, illustration Plate II,
	figs 2-5.
"body length 3 mm, breadth around 0.75 mm, flat margins, width 0.75 mm, flattened
with plain obtuse margins, rounded anterior narrowing to an acute posterior end. Color
above and below "suffusco" green, with minute brown spots; in middle of body red eggs
with distinct translucent spots. Rod-like bodies and colored masses which are numerous,
minute and greenish, give the green color to the body. Two parallel eyes at neck (located to
each side of otocyst) are red brown with diffuse very irregular ramifications. Mouth
transverse, cleft-like, located at end of antior 1/3 of body. Perfectly hermaphroditic (?).
Penis soft, tube-shaped, containing accessory secretory granules. Ovaries paired located
in middle of body. Eggs distinguished by red spots."

	p 45 description:
length 1-2 mm for shape, pigment see Graff 1905, color from black
pigment and zoochlorellae (yellow to brown).
epidermis- nuclei more or less at times insunken- ventral side almost twice as high
as dorsal side, cells plygonial with many intracellularily opening subepithelial
glands. Westblad E 1948 (citation)- he says epidermis slime glands well developed on
		ventral side.
Luther's sense organs laterally and ventrally on anterior end.
	Frontal gland not well developed.
Outer muscle layer very strong, especially the circular muscles on ventral side- a
strong border muscle differentiated from the longitudinal muscle layer on the
ventral side. Westblad E 1948 (citation)- p 20 used on sideward gliding on substrate?
Brain well developed with 3 pair ? longitudinal nerves (1 pair dorsal, 2 lateral). The
largest in the ventral lateral pair lying inside the border muscle. Westblad E 1948 (citation)-
also 1 pair ventral in diagram p 24.
Bursa opens posterior into a long vagina which opens at the anterior part of the common
atrium in the wall of the vagina. One (-2?) stimulatory organs ("Reizorgave?").
Penis a long, curved tube inverted into the very muscular seminal vesicle; its inner wall
lined with many erythrophyl gland cells. Into the anterior part of the thick walled
seminal vesicle open two false seminial vesicles and a bundle of erythrophyl granular
glands. Many glands open into the posterior part of the genital atrium.
Distribution- from White Sea along North Atlantic, East Coast tro Tenerife and in Black
Sea but no records in Mediterranean.
