Notes for Prognathorhynchus stilofer
According to Karling (1983; p.73)(citation), Prognathorhynchus stilofer is a synonym of Paragnathorhynchus subterraneus. However, on a later occasion, after studying new material , he himself doubts the synonymy, and states: "the synonymy of the two species appears to be insufficiently proved" (Karling, 1992; p. 21)(citation). The species was put in a genus of its own (Carcharodognathus) by Evdonin (1977)(citation). This was never mentioned by Karling (1983; 1992) or any other later author, but was followed by Jouk & Schockaert (2002; p.38)(citation). As these are the latest authors, the name Carcharodgnathus is considered the valid name of the taxon.Return to Prognathorhynchus stilofer
