Hooge MD & Tyler S 2003 (citation) - extracted several sexually mature specimens of P. rubra from fine-grained sand at the LWL from Lawson’s Landing, Dillon Beach, California (38° 13' 50'' N, 122° 57' 57'' W). While this is the first documented report of this species from the Pacific ocean, one of us (S. Tyler) collected several specimens of P. rubra from San Diego, California, in May 1978.
