Sagittiferidae Praesagittifera Diagnosis


Kostenko & Mamkaev 1990 (citation) Acoel turbellarians with symbiotic green flagellates, but without
sagittocysts. Male copulatory organ in form of distinct saccate ciliated antrum, with multilayered muscular
envelope. Separated seminal vesicle absent. Female copulatory apparatus represented by ciliated vagina,
well-defined seminal sac, and thin sclerotized nozzle. Body shape from oblong, leaf-like, with bent-down edges
to elongated, monocelid-like. Symbiotic algae impart bright-green color to the body, epidermal glands with
distinct orange secretion also evident. A pair of orange-red pigmented eyespots by sides of the statocyst.
Frontal organ present. Epidermis insunk. Testes and ovaries paired.
