Phaenocora chloroxantha Diagnosis


Animals about 2–3 mm long, with a general body form resembling a smoothing iron. Visible eyes absent. Two types of zoochlorellae present, small round ones and long ones. Male copulatory organ probably of the duplex-type IIIA. The area where the vasa deferentia enter the seminal vesicle is ciliated. Female genital system of the TYPHLOPS-type. No connection with the gut. With a female genital canal, a small intestinal bursa and a duct that runs towards the gut and resembles the burso-intestinal duct of other species of Phaenocora.
