Abstract / Notes
New species of Syndesmis are described from the intestine and coelom of Philippine sea urchins. S. mammilata sp. nov. and S. philippinensis sp. nov. are described from Echinometra oblonga. S. mammilata differs from S. glandulosa Hyman 1960, in having glandular papillae in 2 lateroventral rows, a short ovovitelline duct and a multilocular seminal bursa. S. philippinensis is most closely related to S. franciscana (Lehman 1946), but differs in having a noncuticularized bursal canal, testes wider than long, and a penis stylet base located from midbody to ovaries. S. alcalai sp. nov. is described from Heterocentrotus mammillatus. It is closely related to S. franciscana (Lehman 1946) and S. punicea Hickman 1956, but differs in having a smaller egg, 2-3 ovarian branches/side, and a multilocular seminal bursa with a dorsal, glandlike structure associated with it.
