Abstract / Notes
The ecology of freshwater planarians is important to understand the population dynamics of aquatic macroinvertebrates. This paper analyzes the population dynamics and phenology of Girardia tigrina (Girard, 1850) in the Barigui Park, Curitiba (PR). We collected 196 planarians, which were not distributed uniformly among the sampling sites and are more frequent near river banks. Laboratory and field studies suggest the preference of G tigrina to lay its cocoons during the winter. The presence of aquatic macroinvertebrates did not influence the population of G tigrina, but it is possible that they are food for this species. Aquatic plants, climatic variations and polluted water were determining for the distribution and reproduction of G tigrina.Home page -- (Main hierarchy) |
