Abstract / Notes

A new turbellarian, Cylindrostoma atlanticus, n. sp., was obtained from the Atlantic coast of North America. It was 2-2.5 x 0.8-1 mm, and of a bright orange colouration imparted by subepidermal pigment granules. There were two pairs of brownish black eyes, but caudal glands, ventral haptic organ and a transverse sensory groove were all missing. The intestinal wall was syncytial. The common seminal duct is very short, surrounded by strong sphincter muscle. The pharyngeal cavity was connected directly with the common genital atrium, opening by the gonopharyngeal pore.
