Dudziak J (1958) On the disappearance of Crenobia alpina Dana in the "Zygmunt Springs" in Zloty Potok. Polskie Arch Hydrobiol 5(1): 7-18 |
Abstract / Notes
Investigations in 1955 yielded only several small specimens of C. alpina in the Zygmunt Springs. All of them were grouped in 1 spot immediately below the outlow of spring 4. As compared with 1926, a distinct decrease can be observed in numbers. Ecological conditions in the upper basin and at th'e outlets of the springs are not favorable for this species. Subterranean channels of the springs constitute its living base. Cessation of external migration can be due to the removal of the colony to deeper sections of the underground channels, or else is connected with a decline in biological activity in the colony, and its slow extinction.| Home page -- (Main hierarchy) |
