Abstract / Notes
A new species of the genus Bipalium, B. nobile (Turbellaria, Tricladida, Terricola), from Tokyo, Japan is described. Living, sexually mature specimens of this giant species measure up 300-800 mm or more in length. The species is distinguished among the species of the genus by having on the dorsal side 3 long longitudinal stripes, of which the mid-dorsal one extends onto the head plate; in addition it has a pair of short marginal stripes (the ground color is a uniform pale yellowish brown) and, on the ventral surface, 2 longitudinal stripes. The details of the geintal anatomy differ from the other members of the genus.
