Abstract / Notes

Anoplodium hymanae sp. nov., a symbiont of the holothurian Stichopus californicus, is described from specimens
collected near San Juan Island, Washington, USA. Worms of this species have a single median ovary. This
characteristic distinguishes them from other members of the genus except A. mediale. A. hymanae differs most
significantly from A. mediale in the form of the vitellaria and the connections of the ducts of the female
reproductive tract. Many of the specimens studied had ingested large numbers of cells identified as host
coelomocytes; the species is therefore considered to be parasitic.
