Simple searches for any taxonomic name can be made from a text box that appears at the top of the taxonomic-listing pages:
The search field accepts input in a case-sensitive manner, so that species names can be distinguished from those for higher taxa. It requires entry of only the first few letters of a taxonomic name to generate a list of taxa beginning with that spelling.
The searches can also be for binomials---for example, searching for Convoluta henseni can be done by entering just "C hen", or, as in the image above, all taxa in genera beginning with "Con" and with epithets beginning with "h" would be displayed.
Clicking on any of the taxonomic names displayed will result in a page showing the taxonomic hierarchy of that taxon and its contained taxa. (That is, all found names are displayed as hyperlinks.)
Full searches---that is, for taxonomic authorities, literature, or geographic records as well as
taxonomic names---can be made from a separate page reached by clicking on the
Full Search (as in the top image above) hyperlink:
