Character data

Like many other taxonomic databases, ours originated as a file of hand-written index cards. Dr. Louise Bush of Drew University and the Marine Biological Laboratories, Woods Hole, kept a file of such cards documenting all mention of turbellarian platyhelminths in the literature and their taxonomic status. We have transcribed most of these cards to make the on-line database, but much information still remains to be transcribed. To facilitate tracking of the data in these cards, we have linked the on-line database to images of some of the cards, particularly those pertaining to the rhabditophoran turbellarians which are outside the realm of our project on acoelomorphs and catenulids.

Hyperlinks to these images of cards appear as the icon in the taxonomic-hierarchy displays:

taxa cards

Clicking on these links, such as the one for Schizorhynchia above, produces an image of the first card in the file dealing with this taxon, and along with it, hyperlinks to the remaining cards on it, each symbolized by a lettered card icon:

Similarly, index cards on literature are indicated in the literature listings by the same icon:

lit list cards

Clicking on these links, such as the one for Graff, 1882, above, produces an image of the first card in the file dealing with this publication, and along with it, hyperlinks to the remaining cards on it, again symbolized by lettered card icons:

The other cards can be displayed in any order by clicking on the icon hyperlinks.
