Convolutidae Amphiscolops Notes

Graff L v 1891 (citation)- new genus and places Convoluta cinereus Graff in it.
Bohmig L 1895 (citation)- lists in his Family Aphanostomidae p 39, also p 10, 13, 14, 20, 35.
Graff L v 1902 (citation)- distinction between this genus and Polychoerus- this has ovaries
(polychoerus has ovaries and yolk glands seperate).

Graff L v 1904 (citation)- definition of genus.
Graff L v 1904 (citation)- "Convolutidae with ovaries and two or more chitinous bursa nozzles.
Dorsoventrally flattened, side parts not rolled up. With ventral mouth and copulatory
organs pushed far to the posterior. Frontal glands well developed, testicular follicles
scattered. One species (A. langerhansii) possesses a pair of short flat tail lobes.
Flat creeping animals, 1-5 mm long. Littoral."
							Tierreich - Graff L v 1905 (citation)- 3 species.

Bohmig L 1908 (citation)- mentions p 6, 7.
Luther A 1912 (citation)- p 53-4 diagnosis:
"Convolutidae with genital opening lying anterior to the male. Bursa seminalis with many
(2-14) laminated nozzles. Body "dorso-ventally vlattened, the sides not enrolled' without
thread-like tails." footnote- "In this genus I place also Heterochoerus australis
	Haswell (1905).
It would be best ot split the genus Amphiscolops in the future as to whether the bursal
nozzles open into the parenchyma or intor the female antrum. I have omitted this here, since
in this respect no reports are available concerning A. virescens."
Also compared with his genus Palmenia.

Lohner L 1913 (citation)- on definition of this genus, anatomy, etc.
Wilhelmi J 1913 (citation)- lists p 12 as Amphiscolops (Amphicoerus) Graff
Marcus E 1947 (citation)- notes on the genus p 161-2.
Marcus E 1948 (citation)- mentions p 112, 187.
Westblad E 1948 (citation)- p 30 discusses variety of nozzles here and his reason for removing
	A. virescens and placing it in Aphanostoma. p 46 mentions bursal nozzle in this. p 54 should
this be close to a ?? in Polychoerus. p 57 in key.

Marcus E 1950 (citation)- defines genus as compared to others of Convolutidae as having 2 or more
bursal nozzles but distinct from Polychoerus since it has no caudal appendages (tails)-
	p 18, 21 key.

Hyman LH 1951 (citation) -vol 2, p 122- diagram of reproductive organs. p 126 and 127 copulation
and egg masses. p 128- notes caudal lobes in. p 129- notes this species lives on
	sargassum.

Steinbock O 1963 (citation)- reports on regeneration experiments on a species of this genus.
Steinbock O 1966 (citation)- notes lack of statocysts in p 76- also frequent reference to.
Steinbock O 1967 (citation)- mentions p 394-396 regeneration in - ill p 444.

	A. evelinae Marcus, 1947

Henley C 1974 (citation)- p 277- reports (Haswell WA 1905 (citation) on Heterochaerus) on nozzles in.
p 287 also on mobility of oocytes in Haswell WA 1905 (citation). p 292 on refractile granules in
sperm in Haswell WA 1905 (citation). p 294- she says Haswell WA 1905 (citation) 2 types of sperm-
