notes/comments:

Lord William Beveridge and his role in the Society is chronicled. Zimmerman notes on page 28, that "Beveridge first learned of the dismissal of academics from German universities in March 1933, whilst studying in Vienna. He was appalled, and returned home determined to support his German colleagues." The Society recommendation helped Ernst Marcus obtain the Chair of Zoology at the University of Sao Paulo.
